Don’t make things harder than they need to be.

Anything reasonably sturdy and of mediocre quality or better is fine. Jansport works great. My sons did not care anyway when asked, just requested it be solid color.

Both my MS & upper ES DCs use the following jansport backpack, it’s durable with enough space,

There’s no need to shop at Amazon for a backpack. Let’s not make them more of a monopoly. Plus I don’t think one of those will last. A basic black LL Bean with a separate laptop carrier space would be nice.

My 7th grader has had her LLBean Deluxe since 3rd grade and it looks brand new.

I see everything at my middle school - LL Bean, North Face, Jansport, basically every sport brand you can imagine, and some of the girls still have Pottery Barn.

My son had UA backpacks in MS and HS.

HS teacher here and it doesn’t matter. Get any solid color. Any of the mentioned brands are fine.

My own kids had Jansport, Swiss Gear and Nike last year. The one who had Nike is the most concerned with brands and said she doesn’t want to use it again this year because it was too small. The one who had Swiss Gear picked it up randomly when we were out shopping.

No one at my kids MS is using Jansport.

I don't know any kids using Jansport but some probably do. You can get the sports brands cheaply online or at the discount stores. Ours have lasted years.

My rising 8th grader has had her LL Bean backpack for several years now, and it seems indestructible.

We got the Target brand one last year and has held up very well.

DS went from PBK to LL Bean in 5th grade (when middle school started here). We got the biggest one they make and I anticipate him using it through high school.
