My daughter is at W&M and loves it. Her second and third choices were U Rochester and Macalester.

The suggestion above of Syracuse is one of the craziest things I’ve seen in DCUM.

W&M offered that on his campus visit and that's a godsend to this worried parent. He does not lack ambition. His sister is at an Ivy. He doesn't like the hyper competitive environment.

W&m is amazing! Backups: dickinson, rhodes, maybe U of R, haverford.

Those are not backups. Dickinson and U of R would be targets. Haverford would be reach.

In the context of this thread, does U of R/UR mean Richmond or Rochester?

UR is also nothing like W&M socially. UR feels like UVA, very fratty and sporty. A quirky kid wouldn’t be happy.

UMW is more quirky like W&M. VCU is more hipster. Think Harry Potter club vs. going to punk rock concerts for fun.

You have gotten great suggestions in this thread and like others I think your son will have no trouble getting into W&M. But give UMW some serious consideration. As an out-of-state boy with those stats he will likely get a very generous merit package (which he won't get at W&M). If price is a factor at all, it would be a strong option. Also have heard great things about St. Olaf.

Not sure what your trying to say or imply here; its not quirky at all. VCU is diverse, vibrant and rich.

Not sure what you are taking exception to.

There are a handful of less quirky kids at W&M that could hack it at Pitt. The D&D kids would do better at LAC’s.

Most of the colleges suggested would not be quirky like W&M. I would suggest Wooster, St. Olaf, Grinnell, Oberlin, Earlham, Juanita as places that have the same social vice as W&M.

My WM OOS son also applied to Wake and Elon. I do feel that your son will get in ED. Make sure he gets strong recs and shows interest.
