OP I would be upset at the wife too. Why did she volunteer your work to bring forniture to a sibling that wanted it? That sibling could have gone and picked it up. Other siblings that want stuff in storage to retrieve later same thing. I hope your wife is sorry at least for what she put you through. Now you know who these people are and can act accordingly. The $100 are gone and are the price to pay to never having to do a favor to these people again

My MIL and FIL are moving into assited living. My wife volunteered my labor to help empty the house, which included putting somethings in storage for later retrieval by other siblings, as well as delivering some furniture and art to a sibling that had already put dibs on some items.

Their son used the truck after me, put 250 miles on it, filled the tank, and lied about finding my money. He is a POS. And the family is basically doing nothing.


It's not your truck, so the mileage is not your business.

As for the money keep better track of your cash.

Why would OP be on the hook to fill up the truck? He spent the day moving furniture and belongings of the truck’s owner.

This was free labor and a whole Saturday I voluunteered

The truck had a quarter tank of gas and was to be left at the sibling's house for their kid to use it for some school thing and return it to his grandfather today. He did. With a full tank of gas and 250 miles on the odometer. The problem is my money clip dropped out of my pocket and onto the floor of the cab. It held $120. When we called around asking if it had been found my FIL said yes. So I go to retreiee it. It's now $20.

Nephew claims to have no knowledge "whatsoever" about what happend to the $100. And could offer no explanation as to how he filled the truck.

I'm pretty livid and wondering if I just keep my mouth shut and the door cloed on any future help.


I suppose FIL could have stolen it!

You seem really resentful about helping your aging in laws for one day. These are your wife's parents who are obviously not able to move themselves if they are moving to assisted living. You could be a bit more charitable with her family. I understand being upset about the $100 but you really have no idea and just suspicions that your nephew took it.

Presumably other people at this "school thing" also accessed the truck. Also, the gas tank could have been filled by his parents.

Ultimately you need to let it go. You're the one who lost a wad of cash and didn't even notice. Take better care of your money.
