Teacher here. I see this thread was bumped. We tell students at my school SL classes are typically not college level courses. This is one reason they are unlikely to earn any college credit for exams.

Yes, this. It effectively demonstrates the ability to succeed across disciplines plus the rigor and focus on analytical writing, which helps with strong essays. 8 IB kids in DC's class got into Penn this year. And historically Georgetown has admitted a disproportionately high number of students from this program. For some schools (not all) I do think IB does give a boost, though it's annoying most don't give credit.

But does help with placement. With 6 years of French and a 6 on the IB exam, received a placement letter that recommended an advanced French lang&lit course.

We're waiting to hear about math placement, but hoping the 5 in AP Calc B/C, 6 in IB Math HL, and 36 ACT will place out of Calculus. If not, Calculus will be easy! Pros and cons.

The one 7, in Bio, probably won't affect anything.

What did they do to ready for the Bio exam?

Nothing, in this case. Got in ED and knew the LAC wouldn't give credit for IB classes, so didn't study. Clearly the instructors (one with a PhD) over two years prepped them very well in class! And they've always had a particular knack for the subject, their planned major in college. Did not expect a 7 by any means, was pleasantly surprised.
