There is a NVSL process for this. There are surveys that are recommended to be completed by each team each week for missing swimmers, people leaving, people graduating etc. The seeding committee then uses these details to determine who will move where.

They want evenly matched teams, but D1 is a different animal because there is nowhere higher to move the teams that are in the division. There is always going to be a low team, but this year proved that there were a lot of close ones! I hope it stays this way. Competition is good for everyone.

Please! We have had fun swimming against Arlington and McLean neighbors for the past few seasons but the scores this season have been the most lopsided in NVSL. We are outgunned and limited by our boundaries but we run fun, fast, and spirited meets so I hope D2 or D3 will be happy to have us.

Until this year DR has finished no lower than 4th since moving up to D1; one down year is not indicative of needing to move down to D2 or D3

It’s possible that Donaldson run and oakton swap but I think there is a decent chance d1 stays fixed. I’m pretty sure that high point will move out of d2, either to 3 or 4.

Oakton IS graduating a lot of top swimmers. They were strong in D2 but would generally be crushed in D1.

Heard the same story when they were in D4- whining about not wanting to move up to 2. Then they did well in 2 and finished undefeated this year.

Regardless, the data doesn’t lie. It wouldn’t be pretty for them in D1, even with their current top-scoring seniors.

Respectfully, DR is only one of the teams in D1. The data is clear that Oakton would not fare well against the rest, to put it mildly. I understand your point that based on 2025 records and head to head match ups, you could swap the two. I guess someone has to be the sacrificial lamb of D1.

Exactly. No one wants to be the bottom D1 team, but someone has to do it. I do not envy the seeding committee. I can't imagine how much effort they put into seeding.

OKM here. I know nobody seems to want to believe this, but we are better this year because the majority of our swimmers are in their up year. Next year will be more like 2024. This season was so fun and competitive, but we don’t have the depth that the other D1 teams have to make up for our even-year younger-side athletes. Oakton and OKM may be hanging together in the D1 basement, but we will do our best!

This was by far the most fun summer season in D1 in a long time. A ton of competitive meets. A few upsets and a few almost upsets. And really no true #1 team. Looking forward to next year!

Donaldson Run is a stronger team than Oakton and has good potential. If they drop to 2 they'll be back after a year. Good balance in d1 this year. OKM and Highlands had some amazing swims.

Its tough for a team like DR to be In division 1, the Hoa limits them to only have swimmers within the community boundary. However they have a lot of kids just need some good coaching to develop those young kids..
