It is not “common” (~10% in 7 year olds). So the vast majority of kids are not dealing with it. However, there are enough kids out there that there are products designed/tailored for them. Think about something like glasses (~20% of kids wear them). Again, this is not common (statistically), but those who need them wear them.

In an average classroom (20 kids), there could be 1-2 other kids going through bedwetting, but as others said people don’t tend to talk about it.

Are you a pediatrician or urologist? If not you shouldn’t be giving uninformed statements.

Parents here have said their pediatricians told them it wasn’t unusual at all. My son had occasional random bedwetting until 11. We saw a urologist who did an ultrasound and found him to have an immature bladder, small for his age. He gave us medication he could take for sleepovers that typically dried up the bladder over night.

My son wanted to stop bed wetting so he could go to sleepovers. We saw a specialist who recommended an alarm. Your kid has to be motivated to use it, but it’s highly effective.

I stopped at 9. It was entirely developmental. Doc had me on tofranil. It wasn’t every night but happened a few times a week. Mom used a rubber sheet with a pad instead of making me wear pull ups. I really thankful that she looped in the doctor instead of trying to shame me or “train” me.

I rarely went to sleepovers, when I did we let the parents know what was up.

One of my kids didn't stop until puberty. My brothers and BIL all wet the bed for a long time growing up- but no one would admit it until I pressed (confidentially and politely). I do believe there is a big genetic component.

Meant, it isn’t common

It’s probably constipation. Make an appointment with a GI. We love Dr Chao at PSV. Have her order an X-ray

Common. My 10 year old just stopped wetting the bed this year. He is a very deep sleeper. Don’t make a big deal of it. It will stop eventually. DH wet the bed until 7 or so

Common. My son was still wetting the bed regularly at 7. He just turned 9 and it hardly happens. It does happen on rare occasion. It usually happens if he goes to bed very late and is very tired. We now use those overnight bed pads and that works perfectly. My now 17-year-old also did the same and it just stopped around the same age.

Anonymous wrote:Anyone still use the regular side fastening diapers for bedtime? My kiddo still fits the size 7 comfortably and I don’t see any reason to pay extra for the big kid pull-ups if they can wear a diaper just fine. We’ve never made a big deal about it.

We do. Not necessarily due to cost but because they work better, we have leaks with pull-ups and not with the tape on. Also my boys aren't bothered by it. Do what works best for your family.

Super common. Hereditary. I did until 7 and mom spanked me. Brother did until puberty and he was shamed bc parents did not know better. Son until about 9– super deep sleeper. And he never wet the bed bc we always had him in pull-up until he was consistently dry. Just never made a big deal out of it (I pointed out to him that target sold lots of pull-ups so he was lot alone and it was part of growing up).

Yes it is common but people don’t talk about it. I would never share this with mom friends, many of whom are the parents of my child’s friends, or post about it publicly in a Facebook group.
