Any chance this will be resolved, or should I request my file now and scramble to find a new GYN?
This sucks.
If you’re expecting now, request your file.
If you’re not delivering before 2026, change insurance.
I’m not currently pregnant, and I’m not switching insurance. Our coverage is excellent and this is the first time in 20+ years that I’ve ever encountered a situation like this.
Honestly, I’m wondering if CWC is the problem.
The last few times I’ve been in, they’ve been pushing boutique services (in house mammograms, ozempic, etc.). Weird.
I bet they are trying to go the boutique route…which is strange because it often feels like they serve a lot of young moms on Medicaid.
Then change providers? It shouldn’t be a scramble if you’re not pregnant? If you’re insurance is “excellent” you should have no trouble finding a practice (though like others I think in this area no one considers United to be excellent!)
?
ICYMI: It really stinks to lose a DR you know and trust after decades of care. Now I’ll need to scramble to find a new DR and build a relationship. When you get older and have medical issues, this sort of curveball really is frustrating.
Re: UHC - I find it to be excellent insofar as I’ve enjoyed $10 copay’s and didn’t pay a dime to deliver multiple babies. We’ve had a number of bizarre health issues in our family requiring specialists, procedures, tests, etc. and have never paid more than the copay. I’m not switching insurance because CWC dropped UHC or vice versa. I’m just venting here like everyone else.
If you like that Dr so much, just see them privately. I am sure you can work out some kind of payment. You don't "need" healthcare insurance.

Anonymous wrote:Hello all,
Regardless of whether you are a Unitedhealthcare customer or a patient at Capital Women's Care, I am writing about an issue that faces all of us.
As a CWC patient, I got an email yesterday from CWC notifying me that their contract with Unitedhealthcare is at risk of terminating as they cannot reach an agreement with Unitedhealthcare. If they fail to reach an agreement, my doctor will be out of network as of August 1. I will have to find a new doctor.
CWC is one of the largest OBGYN providers in the area. If 10,000s of their patients (United customers) can no longer access their doctor, there simply won't be enough doctors to go around. Even if you are not a patient at CWC or a United customer, people will be competing for your doctor's time and you will have less access because the largest provider in the area is no longer an option for the United customers. Remember that switching insurance providers when your employer only offers one is not easy!
The email from CWC urged me to call United and complain, urging them to reach an agreement with CWC, so that I can have continuity of care. CWC's email said:
Please call either the number on the back of your member card orto voice your concerns about Capital Women’s Care’s upcoming termination date from the UHC network. Let UHC know that you value your provider and would like your provider as part of Capital Women’s Care to remain in network! If you are part of a group plan, please also ask your Human Resources Department or benefits advisor to advocate with UHC on your behalf.1-866-801-4409
Please call and complain! Put the pressure on so that there are enough OBGYNs to go around.
