Is it another rich mom hobby shop? Those are the worst. They carry 4 sizes and only things the moms who own them would wear - you know who I'm talking about, LOL.

DP here. It is not uncommon for shopping centers to push tenants out if they don't drive enough traffic or revenue. It's a fairly common lease covenant. Disney Springs is famous for this but it happens lots of other places and is perfectly legal. There is no requirement to renew a lease once the previous lease has been fulfilled. That isn't to say I don't feel for the barbershop owners, but that doesn't mean what is happening is illegal. It's usually about the money.

Yeah, the ones that are there are pretty high-end unless it’s gonna be a south moon under. I probably won’t buy anything. The Sassanova in Bethesda that is now in that shopping center is very expensive. Beautiful clothes, but I have never bought any. That said there are plenty of people in McLean who would.

sad, but true - i get trying to save a few % on CC processing fees, but by now cash only usually involves other nefarious motives

I know a business owner who was looking at Chesterbrook for space but was told the developers wanted only national or local chain stores ie high end. Maybe they are trying to bring in a drybar or something who knows.

I live near this shopping center and I’m glad it’s being revitalized. With Call your Morher, Sorn Thai, some clothing boutiques, it will be good. Just need1-2 more good-ish local restaurants. That and the Starbucks and the Safeway and people actually go there now.

The barbershop probably didn’t want to pay higher rent. Also, there are plenty of local places to rent. The landlords aren’t running a charity.

The barber shop can find a new location. The business is not shut down, they just need a new place to run it. Lots of open spots on the decrepit shopping centers in “downtown McLean.”
