I called Washington Radiology today and waited an hour to speak to someone. I called Medstar after and immediately spoke to a live person and got an appointment.

Sad, but that explains it.

Read the story in today’s NYT about the low quality player taking over rehab care in the United States.

With very minimal government oversight.

Republican values at their finest.

All of my experiences with MRI at multiple places have been 10000x better than my wife trying to get a breast MRI at Chevy Chase Washington Radiology. They don’t answer the phone or return calls. Google reviews show this has happened to many people.

Hopkins (used to be GCM imaging) near WJ in Bethesda is not bad. They are not infallible, but the patient experience is usually positive .

They suck! Especially the K street location. Worst attitudes of the employees at the front desk and the radiologist. They read my son’s order wrong, imaged the wrong body part and then got testy and defensive when I insisted that they call the Dr office to get it right. I will never go back. I told them to their face how much they sucked and I’m not a confrontational person but I was flabbergasted at how incompetent and rude they were.

This suggests that the greatest issue is patient volume far exceeds the number of radiologists available to do the reads. Meanwhile Community Radiology, who I used to consider a tier down in preference, has truly stepped up their game of late.

I have found this to be the opposite. Community Radiology has different systems depending on whether you call in vs if you make your appointments online using their portal. They missed important information as a result and not one person from the online check-in to the office staff caught the problem until I got to the technician. Calling to follow up and discuss in more detail was a waste of time and full of frustration. I will not be using their services again.

Honestly, I’ve been fine with WRA. They did miss BC, but it was lobular, which notoriously hides on mammo and ultrasound.

They are horrid. I much prefer Medstar Georgetown and Sibley, but my insurance covers less of their fees.

For a breast MRI scheduled two months in advance (supposedly no openings), they called at 4 pm July 3 (closed July 4) for a 8:45 am Monday exam and said there was no insurance approval and could pay in full out of pocket. Called them first thing that Monday morning to check if insurance came through and they said they’d call back ASAP. Never called back.

Every time I go they have someone else’s insurance information on the sheet of paper they give you. Each time I correct it, and then the next time it is wrong again.

For mammograms I like the Shady Grove Breast Center as well as their White Oak center too. Make sure you ask for the right kind of mammogram, ultra sound etc for you.
