My daughter’s school counselor has recommended she take a closer look because she is interested in engineering. We have started looking into it but have not visited.

U of Delaware has a VERY strong Chemical Engineering Program ( du pont and others are in that area)



so if ur kid is interested in chemistry - this is the place to go!

It's known to give out good merit unlike the PA schools such as PSU.

Anyhow. as a parent who lives around Bethesda I loved it. Like a 101 mile drive. I could actually go to Parents weekend Football game for day no problem. It has Amtrak station back and forth. The off campus housing is all mainly walking distance to bars, restaurants and campus. My kids off campus house the parking lot of school was literally across the street. And they are generous merit aid. And my kid in Honors so the Honors housing really nice. They Honors housing dorm is a super nice new building if you get in. But my kid did live in regular housing sophmore year and that was ok to. She moved "off" campus junior year but "off" campus is right by school.

Some of their programs such as Nursing are very high rated and carry weight from NYC to DC. And use my kid got onto UMD and some name brand schools. But UDELL has direct admit nursing and a lot of schools don't have that.

I think it is a perfect size school And other plus it draws kids from Long Island/NY, NJ, DE, MD and VA mainly so friends my kid have from college she can keep in touch with. My older daughter who went to school in Boston the kids were mainly from New England and all over. In summers and winter breaks she did not see them and after graduation moved to Boston as her circle of friends there. None of her friends from school lived anywhere near the DMV.

Finally Newark DE is not exactly a high rent area like Boston, NYC, when my kid was off campus her share of rent on house was peanuts which also saved money.

It's not the school being made fun of, but the POTUS himself. He was not a stellar student. I remember he was accused of plagerizing too.

Neighbor was a 3.5 in NoVa public and went to UDel and I think he got some money too. He loves it. He has decided he wants law (rising Junior) and has a great internship in a local law firm and his professors and the career center have been very helpful. He feels well set up for law and is happy.

If you are from a nova public, look at your school’s scattergram data. It’s a target for my kid w a 3.5, but it might depend on rigor.

Don’t know about merit though and I’ve heard it’s hard to get w a 3.5

What type of stats do you need to get in? And for those that got merit from out of state, what stats did your DC have?

Would someone with a 3.5 GPA from a NoVA public get in and get merit?

OP here. Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like UD has a lot going for it—great location, close to NYC, Philly, and DC, and a cute (even if small) college town. It’s just a shame that the less energetic school spirit and game day atmosphere probably wouldn’t be a fit for my kid, since that’s something she’s really looking for.

That is cause you are in state PSU. My kid got in PSU and Pitt and went to UDELL. But being OOS and Pitt or PSU giving no merit aid made UDELL a no brainer. PA schools are VERY Stingy merit aid and OOS tuition is high. Hence many a NY/NJ/MD kid goes to UDELL. NY just has SUNY, NJ Rutgers and MD UMD. less choices than PA or VA for in state schools.

Go Blue Hens. Beautiful campus. Nice town. Lots of out of state kids - NJ, PA esp. Not like school spirit of Pitt, but nice place.
