Between money market, savings and ibonds we have $100k. But we have a lot more in a brokerage in VTI.

4.1% apy with Live Oak Bank. I've been happy with them over the past half year since I opened the account.

I have about 225k in my money market through fidelity. It has some tax benefits. I get over 700 a month in interest. I had put the money there after I sold my house because I was thinking about buying again. Haven't found anything I liked. Then I kept it there because I was uncertain about the market under trump. Now I am keeping it there because I will retire soon at 53 so I will miss the rule of 55 and will use some of the savings (in addition to a pension) until I reach 59 and 1/2.

Very little — maybe $60k total in savings and money market? In the unlikely event we both lost our jobs, we’d liquidate some investments, I guess.

Why do you keep so much in cash?

We have about $125k in MM/HYSAs (would be less, but we are planning a kitchen renovation in the next year) and $800k in other investments (outside of retirement and college accounts).

5 million invested and 500k in money market in case of emergency is fine.

But a year's worth of emergency fund seems pretty prudent to me, generally.

We have 2 million invested (separate from our retirement accounts).

You probably don't even really need an emergency fund and will likely be better off financially without one in the long run. There is an emotional aspect to having an "emergency fund" though. Nothing wrong with having 50k or 100k in a money market, especially at todays rates.

So 300k too much but ok to drop to 100k

We make a similar amount and keep $120k in a money market and additional $320k in VTSAX (which can also be used during an emergency). We are trying to retire early (at 53/57) and plan to maintain this ratio on our glide path. Goal is to increase brokerage to $1.2 mil in the next 7 years.

Yeah, to me that's a lot of money in a money market. A big factor is how much you have invested in a taxable brokerage account. If you have several hundred thousand in stocks sitting in a taxable account then I would have a minimal emergency fund/money market account.
