Not OP, but our ragdoll cat goes into an anxious depression when we leave her. The last time we were gone for two weeks, she barely ate and started over-grooming herself to the point that she created a big bald patch on her side. This was with preemptive gabapentin, which the vet put her on starting a month before we left because last year when we went on vacation, she stopped eating and drinking and the cat sitter had to take her to the emergency vet after finding her collapsed in a ball; she had to go on an IV drip and have treatment for dehydration that time.

She's a codependent basket case.

But a really loving cat.

*^ meant our cat is a family member, not the cat sitter

My daughter is on daily cat duty for a friend while she's away. She feeds them, scoops out the litter, cleans up any mess and throws away the debris come trash day.

That's not the same thing as leaving an automatic feeder and waterer on for 10 days.
Which some people do.

This is what I thought the thread was going to be about.

You're not leaving your cat alone for 10 days. Also, super weird attachment to your cat.

I mean. Weird attachment would be never leaving the cat alone. I don't think it's weird to be anxious about leaving kitty for ten days which is kind of a longer trip.

It is weird, actually. 10 days is not a long trip. People travel all the time.

I don't understand why you are so strung out over the fact that some people feel bad leaving their pets.

+1 My super friendly and cuddly cat gets very lonely, and we don’t have other cats to keep her company. It’s really hard to leave her, but we have to take our vacations, and we get a cat sitter. She’s a family member and we love her to bits! She brings a lot of happiness to our home. Not sure why PP insists on pathologizing love and concern for a pet.

Our pet sitter plays with the cats after feeding them. After a few days of that, the cats demand playtime after meals when we get back. They might like the sitter more.

OP here. This sitter has been watching her for about four or five years. So they know each other and have a pre-existing relationship.

They do. But when they get mad or upset, they soon forget about it.
