Why didn’t you return the sheets and get a set that fit?
Because she was 18 and in college and probably couldn't go back to the store to return them easily.
When Twin XL beds first started appearing they were rare. So not even all dorms at one college would have them. I think at my college if you rented a special loft bed you could choose an XL.
To me it's an inconvenience bc people end up with leftover sheets after college.
Also yes, once you open sheets you can't really return them. It's impossible to repack them neatly.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. You deserved a mom who would lovingly pick out and purchase the things you needed to make your college dorm room a home.
My mom didn’t do this either, but I didn’t expect it of her? Are moms really supposed to decorate a college dorm room? Isn’t that the opportunity for kids to learn how to decorate on their own and get their own stuff? I bought my sheets/dorm stuff at a thrift store, and it’s how I learned to make my money stretch.
Neither did mine. I took a bus to the mall and picked out my own comforter, sheets and towels at jcpenney. Cheapest ones I could afford. My parents were not wealthy and sending me to college along with three other siblings on a teacher's salary made things super tight. I was really proud of myself.
