Buy a box of condoms and a 2 pack of the morning after pill from Amazon. Put it in her bathroom and tell her that now that she’s starting to date she should be prepared just in case, when I did this with my oldest I grouped her and her friends together (ie this is for you and your friends just in case, bc I don’t want lack of access to lead to dumb decision)

My 17 yr old and I have a great relationship and she pretty much tells me everything. She had told me that she and her boyfriend were not planning on having sex for a long while. Come to find out, they did. So, OP don't assume that because you have an open relationship with your DD that it won't happen. As much as you like to believe otherwise, they really don't want to talk to their mom about this topic. That said, there's only so much you can do- talk frequently about the importance of using protection and make it available. I also think it's unrealistic to think like I did that they would wait a year or so of being together before having sex. For some, that might be the case but it's just very unrealistic.

Buy the condoms OP. Have them accessible to her. This is a trial run for when you’re home and people aren’t coming and going all the time or she’s at a friend’s and their parents aren’t home. Don’t stick your head in the sand.

Op here. Probably on the beach with their friends the backyard. I mean they are never truly alone the beach is about a 10 minute walk from our house there's constantly neighbors walking to and from and around the beach. At the beach they go with her friends and like bi said neighbors are always there and our neighbors love to talk. When they are at our house I or DH is always around and they are only allowed in the backyard/ front porch family room and people are always in and out including younger siblings it's the same at neighbor's house including a MIL that lives there. I feel like I have eyes everywhere. And we talk. She told me she thought he was cute at the start and the kids. I think she would tell me if she was wanting to have sex. I get the logistics of BCP may be hard at the beach, but having condoms available is important and easy. Go to the store and buy her a box and give them directly to her. Where there is a will there is a way.

I had an open relationship with my mom too. I never told her when I started having sex.
