Peru has more of an indigenous population than some South American countries like Argentina so I think they catch some racist shade from some South Americans for this. Also, many decades ago there were lots of poorer Peruvian immigrants fleeing the political instability. Now it seems like the Venezuelans catch more shade because there are a lot of economic refugees from Venezuela flooding other South America countries.

My visits to Canada have all been lovely, the Canadians I know personally are wonderful people, and a significant chunk of my disposable income has allowed me to purchase some of my favorite things from Canada and Canadian companies.

On the other hand, if any Canadians are hating American right now, well, I completely understand.

I find that most of my fellow white people in the US (particularly the MAGA ones) just lump all Hispanic people together as "Mexican" and there is no differentiation for people from Peru or any other country.

I haven’t seen or heard anything targeted toward Peruvians ever and believe it’s a case of OP’s algorithm. Most of the time when people tell me about some really niche bigotry that no one else seems to know about, it’s because of the spaces they go online and the people they interact with.

I’m not aware of any stigma specifically against Peru. I know there is some stigma about immigration and some prejudice against Hispanics, but nothing against Peru specifically.

Frankly, Americans do tend to be focused on America, with little knowledge or awareness of the rest of the world. Our knowledge of America’s own geography and history is appalling, with a sharp drop-off when it comes to foreign countries. I’m afraid it would surprise me if even half of Americans knew that Peru was a country (which is not a reflection of Peru, but of American ignorance - I wouldn’t expect them to recognize many other countries, either).

As for the question of Peruvian alcohol tolerance, I’m not a drinker myself. I certainly don’t pay attention to anyone else’s drinking habits.
