Why am I so upset? I really don't understand it. I think it might be because I might fall away from church and this "church family" if the new paster doesn't measure up to this one. I also suspect that no other will measure up because this current one is quite gifted.

Anyway, curious if others have experienced this.

Maybe you liked the religious resurgence that you felt and are now suspecting that it was mainly a positive reaction to this particular pastor.

Also -- you should know that it's not at all unusual for churches to have great changes in membership whenever there's a clergy transition.

Helpful. I joined this church during a transition; liked the former and new but I wasn't really into the church back then.

Are you more "into the church" than religious? Do you like the camaraderie more than you believe in the tenets of the religion? Tough questions, but now is the time to think about them.
