People are earning their grades at Princeton, MIT, Rice, CalTech, Berkeley, Penn, Northwestern, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, even Vanderbilt, Yale and Chicago, and so on. Harvard and Brown are the outliers. If you want to coast, Harvard and Brown are the schools for that student.

Have to add Duke. 3.9 is the average. If you are below 3.9 at Duke, sorry you are coasting.
Total BS.
3.9 is not the average at Duke. 3.92 is the most recent cutoff for the top 25%.
3.81 was the median for 2024 because our close relative was a hair above and knew from the med admissions committee letter lists the median for each graduating class. However 3.81 is certainly quite high of a median, higher than most ivies.
Duke website says 3.963 25% 2025 (trinity). 3.933 for Pratt 2025.
PP says “average” not median. Either way, Duke is inflated.

Inflated, especially Tufts although it isn't T25.

UC Berkeley lists the average grade by course:

Biology 1A was 2.97
Computer Science 40 average was 3.16
Math Linear Algebra and Differential Equations average 2.99
Math 1A: Calculus: average grade 3.06
Math 16 A Analytic Geo & Calculus average 2.95
Econ 1: average 3.15
Electrical Engineering Computer Science: Average 3.33 (44% of students got a B)
Even upper division course can be GPA killers
Molecular and Cell Biology 102 average GPA 2.86
Econ 100A average 3.08

seriously Amherst? I know Williams is the opposite
Amherst has easy As everywhere. Big difference in student bodies at Williams versus Amherst
