The worst is when the chair is rounded so you can’t hang it AND the lower back is open so you can’t tuck it behind your back. EVERY RESTAURANT CHAIR SHOULD BE MADE FOR HANGING A BAG!

Not necessarily about germs, it’s about ruining a nice bag. And it’s not just what’s on the floor, it’e also about what could end up on the floor.

I balance it between my feet, off the floor. Or wear it crossbody. Never on my lap; I ruined a good bag that way with oil.
