She was much loved and her family was trying to get her help but she didn’t want treatment. It is way too hard to get someone treated for mental illness if they resist. Her former boyfriend was interviewed and confirmed that she didn’t have to be homeless but she was in mental distress. He was in contact with her. This could be bipolar or who knows what but she was an example that many of our homeless do have families who want to help them. I am thinking it explains walking in the street and why she was hit accidentally. The driver has more reason to argue they didn’t see her and tho it not they hit a cone. You do not expect someone in the street. This is all so very very sad. I know of several families dealing with this kind of situation where you have a child who is perfect and hard working and suddenly things fall apart. Mental illness so sad and horrible.

Anonymous wrote:I don't think you can have a suitcase wedged under your car and not know. I'm a pretty clueless driver, but one time I broke part of some piece of plastic under my car on a bunch of snow, and I could definitely tell right away.

Not a good look though to not call police if you see a suitcase attached to your car. I am also wondering why someone was walking with a suitcase on a highway? Alcohol not a factor so maybe a terrible tragedy?
Sounds like they should put in a sidewalk if there's a bus stop and a train station there so people don't get hit like this.
If she hit someone who was walking down the road, she would know if she had her wits about her at all. But also, the fact that it was the middle of the night and foggy does seem like it could be a factor. But to not see a huge pink suitcase when you fully ran over it? Very indicative that she was drunk.
This. I have never been to the hamptons but the idea of rich people getting off a train and hoofing it down a long stretch of road is hilarious to a commoner like me. Don't they have car services and ubers?
The previous article (linked in the NY Post story) says the victim was hit near Villa Paul. I looked it up on Google maps and it appears there is a sidewalk there. The linked article also says that the victim was walking in the roadway in the westbound lane, which means she was in the road facing traffic - maybe trying to cross the street?
Also, it was 3 in the afternoon, so sure she could have been drinking, but maybe not.
The accident was at 3 in the morning....
Yeah, that NY Post article is wrong.
You do wonder why the lady that got hit was in the middle of the road with her suitcase at 3 in the morning.

Alcohol could have been a factor. But she fled scene so no way to know after that much time.
This is a common strategy for wealthy people who hit someone while intoxicated.
A driver might hit someone, speed dial their lawyer while still driving, and receive “hypothetical” advice to continue home and get the alcohol out of their system. Meanwhile, discretion at the bar is ensured with cash and NDAs.
