My longtime stylist moved to a Solon suite a few years ago - great for her, I fully support - but with it she raised prices every single time I went to where my cut and highlights was to $500 (with tip)

To be honest, I’m proud of her for getting to where she can charge her worth but I can’t pay that amount so I went elsewhere. It’s not that much cheaper but I do prefer to be in a full salon and at this price it’s become a luxury and not a necessity as it once was so I at least want the experience of it

I have this aversion to tipping. If Botox wanted a tip I wouldn’t do it. I’m so over these professionals that want tipped nonstop.

What?!? I just had 42 units today and it was $550. Does your face move at all?!?! Mine is $13 but $15 is the norm.

Hardly. You think groceries, housing, insurance, continuing education classes, utilities, healthcare are cheap right now?

For that price I’d expect 8 hours exclusively on my hair.

The people paying have also experienced inflation with nO raises! The services are just going to have to meet in the middle or accept less custom.

These things were way more expensive in another country I lived in (Switzerland) and stylists never charged $650 for highlights. I think this is greed at this point.

This area is very expensive for cosmetic procedures of all kinds. Hair cuts and color, plastic surgery, med spa type services. If you can swing just regular hair color/no highlights, it will bring down the cost a lot. My usual cut and color doubles in price if I add highlights. But I can get cut color and highlights where my family lives in Columbus, Ohio for just a little more than cut and color here. And it’s a nice salon and they do a great job. So maybe book a salon visit when you go visit family elsewhere!
