I’m ashamed that I know this but Curt Smith from Tears for Fears has two daughters, Wilder and Diva. I always assumed because their have such a common, plain surname that the parents went out of their way to create two unique names!

Also I guess the name could be pronounced as WILLder but that sounds too much like Wilbur and any name that constantly gets mispronounced and misspelled and misunderstood is a terrible burden to put on a DC.

The parents who consider Wilder want to raise a feral wild child and will go ahead and give him some ridiculous middle name like Trigger or Ransom or Danger and will make sure he grows a mullet by 4. Wilder will run around in plastic Western boots, a Kool Aid stained licensed character t shirt and leggings. “He’s all boy” will be the highest compliment t you can give Wilder.

This is a popular boy’s name among a certain “raising lions”-type of family. Similar in tone to “Wolf”. The idea is that their kids don’t have to bow to convention

Mildly bewildered by “Wilder”

I think of Gene Wilder, just free association.

I could see it as trying to be romantic, non-conformist, but I think it sounds silly. Like the guy who gave his child Danger as a middle name. So he could say “Danger is my middle name.”

Would be a better first name for a boy than a girl I'd say. Just my opinion.
