OP - I have been in your position and it bites. Bright side? Your daughter loves and trusts you enough to share her problems with you. That's such a win. I'm a little blue today for reasons similar to yours and am skipping off to the pool today for a lunch time swim. Find your happy and indulge a little.

Thank you so much for all of your time and hard work, OP. Volunteers do so much and can go unsung, like in your case. I’m sure you were appreciated and this is just one of those cases where people are incompetent and on thinking.

I also want to say that for me and a number of other people I know, today was a supremely shitty day. It was just one of those horrible no good days. Maybe some planet is out of alignment or something. Wishing you a happy as you move into whatever is next For the time and energy that you have now freed up.

OP, I'm so sorry. I once had a similar thing happen to me (stepped down from a board and sat through my last meeting staring at a cake and PowerPoint slide celebrating everyone's departure but mine) and I felt really juvenile to feel so hurt.

It really helped to tell my spouse and a few close friends, and hear them be shocked and angry on my behalf. Being overlooked (whether professionally or by the $#@! Verizon guy or delivery service) really stings sometimes.

Be proud of the work you did and the difference you made in the world. That's a lasting impact, even if the dingbats now in charge dropped the ball on acknowledging it.

OP here and proud of your DD. She is more mature and advanced in her thinking that I am. I think she’ll go far with that kind of attitude. Good for her!

When my DD didn't get an award this week that she thought she deserved, I asked her if she would have done anything differently and did she believe she did an outstanding job. She said she'd make no changes and yes her work was topnotch. Hopefully you can look at your situation similarly, with confidence and pride in your work. In the end, that's all we have anyway.

I guess the part that I got stuck on was that we celebrated my predecessor on 2023. 50% of the current board was around for that.

It probably isn’t ill intent at all, you’re right. At least if they were deliberately not acknowledging me it would imply some effort, albeit negative, had gone into it!

Personally, I imagine nobody throwing a going away party for the top of any organization. For lower ranked folks, yes. So if it was me, I could have done the same. Although I would have asked what was done in past to other board members.

It was kind of you to write this! I feel a tiny bit better knowing that even a random stranger can recognize the commitment of time and energy that I made to this Board.

I actually met with the new chair and this year's vice chair on-site at dinner time to transfer some final files and drive links, and there was a flower arrangement on the table in a travel box from the florist. I thought for a brief moment that maybe they were planning to stage a private thank you think and I felt a flurry of being annoyed that it was late and also relieved and embarrassed that I'd vented here for no reason.

At the end, one of them picked it up, took it to the administrative assistant and asked them to leave it for so-and-so person to pick up!

Sorry, I’m rambling and unclear but trustees and board members are the same and some but not all are major donors (including me). Everyone is required to be a donor but that’s as much information as 98% of the people in the board room have.

I would say nothing direct about the slight, but would stop contributions, as close to today as possible. And I would cc the rest of the board while doing it.
