Trump is a different animal in politics due to his lack of integrity as the POTUS but generally speaking, the divisive and hateful speech has continually gotten worse since the 90s. Cables news and then social media exposed a weakness in the American people that our two major political parties have been able to take advantage of.

With the American people firmly divided into two sides with both sides being fueled by hate for the other side, our awful major political parties find it much easier to cash in on the "donations" and they find it much easier to maintain their power with no threat of being replaced by a 3rd party entity. The use of media sources to spread political massaging crafted to stir division and hate is big business. The sheep have been duped.

Yes, and Democrats have been giving them political and media cover for a long time because SO FAR, their violence is directed at the Democrats' enemies. Americans refuse to learn from the countless examples in history of how easy it is to lose control of violent groups.

It already is. We are on the downward slide and I don't know what can stop it. So much of the wealth and power is in the hands of so few. The media makes money by having people be angry and afraid. Working people all over the country are impacted by voter turnout in a small handful of places. And our country is VERY, VERY saturated with guns.

How long the slide lasts and how horrible and violent it is (or hopefully isn't) remains to be seen, but this is not sustainable. The American experiment has run its course.
