Art is what underpins culture. Every culture has art. Art is literally what separates us from animals. Art was a part of human culture long before civilization. Humans cannot survive without art. Oppressed and imprisoned people create art even when they cannot do anything else. To deny that art is one of the core experiences of being a human being is the height of ignorance.
