OP here. DCUM did not disappoint! Thanks again for all the shopping advice, which was spot on! I had fantastic luck in the Runway Section at the Columbus Circle TJ Maxx and really enjoyed the boutiques around Soho.

Not remotely true.
You might get the same store but the merchandise will be very different.

NP. All these stores have a huge online presence. What can you get in person in NYC that you can’t get online? (Serious question, btw).

NP. I live in NYC now but used to live in DC and frequently go back for work. If you’re willing to shop exclusively online, then fine, but if you want to actually browse in a store, touch the clothes, and try things on, the stock in NYC stores is much better for most brands (assuming there is also a presence in DC). And yes, many brands have stores here and not in DC. So there’s more choice if you care about seeing the merchandise in person, are between sizes and would rather try things on, etc.

Unless you're petite. When I was there a month ago, even NYC flagships didn't have the petite sizes in stock, only on-line. Maybe if you go to Japan. Sigh.

No to that Bloomingdale’s Outlet. A collection of really weird stuff - not that there is anything wrong with that, but the best finds there are not for work.
