I just thought of one I haven’t seen in quite a while - Memphis Belle

Thank you for posting this. We loved it!

The kings speech
The young Victoria
Band of brothers
Anthropoid
A league of their own

(As you can see, a lot of World War II films based on true stories)

I have watched this miniseries at least 3 times start to finish - that time period is so interesting to me and the acting in this is great.

Just watched it again with my kids, since they are perennially studying Revolutionary history.

John Adams is a frustrating miniseries because they almost ruin it with the overuse of Dutch angles and extreme close ups.

Lincoln
1917
Glory

I'll add Gettysburg to your list. It was one of those movies that I couldn't stop thinking about for a couple of weeks afterward.

OP, I know you didn't ask for documentaries, but just as an aside. . . Ken Burns' series, Vietnam, is phenomenal. The first episode on the political/colonial background was a bit slow, but a few episodes into it and I couldn't help but binge watch the whole thing. Then couldn't stop thinking about it for a long time afterward.

It’s a recreation of the Wannsee Conference starring, among others, Stanley Tucci (Eichmann), Kenneth Branaugh (Heydrich), Colin Firth (Stuckart). It’s absolutely chilling.

I know many people pan it, but I enjoyed the JFK movie with Kevin Costner, too.

While not really historical fiction, you might enjoy the movie Dick. 2 teenagers accidentally stumbling into the watergate scandal. Fun soundtrack

I'm OP and I was as well! I think it was due to the cast, who were phenomenal.

Sounds like a reasonable explanation

I just watched The Boy in the Woods.

It is based on a remarkable true story of a young Jewish boy who survived the holocaust by hiding in the woods, later to become a Canadian citizen and artist. There is a clip from the documentary at the end during the credits that will break your heart.

The movie acting is almost entirely by children.
