Is VCU considered on par or better than CNU?

Some kids don't vibe with the urban campus. Mine wants a more traditional campus and I get that. Kid wants to study pre-nursing or something similar.

OP, apply widely. Why the need to determine -now- what the outcome will be? What the favorite will be. If not ED, no reason is the world.

Look at where VT is on the US News ranking and see if there are any schools around that ranking or below your DC might prefer. Choose several. Throw the hat into the ring and see what happens. Especially if any are rolling admission, you may have an answer and know the cost in the Fall. Something to compare.

You might want to try this little thing called Google. For JMU, they had 36,000 applications and accepted 27,000. And the average SAT is 1260. It’s not even close. Not to mention that JMU’s yield is among the lowest in the state.

VT is actually incredibly competitive. You're applying to a major there. There's lots of competition.

How hard is it to change a major once in at VT? I know if it was easy, everyone would do it, but is it possible to apply to a random major and switch to a more popular one?

For non restricted majors it doesn’t seem difficult but many of the popular majors (colleges of business, engineering, architecture/design, etc), you either need to reapply to the university (so initially going withundersubscribed major doesn’t save you) or it’s limited enrollment so it’s practically impossible
