I wash the top part my mouth touches probably every 2-3 days. And the whole thing including the straw with a brush about once a week. No mold. Been doing this for over a year now.

+1. This is why I pump my water from my own well into my wooden bucket (therefore bypassing all the plastic pipes in my home). We also drink milk directly from the cow's teats.
