She's talking about a $2k maxi dress here, not some dumpy sun dress from Target. I'm sure its fine.

Sounds perfect. This is an engagement party--not a promotion party for work.

Not sure why we needed 2 pages if you were just going to argue with everyone and wear it anyway. I think it might be a little off, but not enough for anyone to notice or say anything. Have fun!

Kind of agreeing with you. Its a NYC social club, Union Club.

I think it's fine. You're an out of towner. So it won't hurt to look like it.

Many years ago during the DC power skirt suit era, I wore a red wool skirt suit with pretty satin embroidery to a winter wedding in midtown Manhattan at some university club. When I got there, I was definitely the the most colorfully-dressed but nobody looked at me funny. But I felt like I looked almost Texan. Like channeling Ann Richards.

they were probably jealous for your fashion sense when all of them were just sheep following one another

The only reservation I had was ankle length. Always think maxi is shorter. But if at least 2 others have long dresses no worries them.

OP, you asked us if this dress was appropriate and seem to be arguing with everyone who says no.

Are you looking for permission?

If you want to wear the dress then just wear the dress.

thank you! I needed to hear this.

thanks and agree..so sick of black plus this color really suits my own coloring. I don't feel like "following the herd"
