I think this is a good thing. C'mon. You're telling me that this is one of the best undergrad business schools in the country and all it takes to transfer into the program is to get a 3.0 in each class? Time to up the standards!

Imagine sending your child off to college and being worried they can’t even get a 3.3? Have some faith OP! Your child clearly got into a good school so they must be doing something right!

According to IU's website admission was guaranteed: "Students whose records indicate grades of B's or better in every IU Bloomington course on the first attempt will be automatically admitted." Scroll to the bottom.https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/undergrad/admissions/current-iu/pre-2025-criteria.html

I think that this is a pretty big change and I would be upset if I had a kid that was pre-business. It's not a 3.3 GPA that is required for automatic admission, it's no grades below B+. So a student could have a very high GPA with one B and miss automatic admission and be stuck with a holistic admission decision process that likely changes drastically based on the number of open seats in Kelly.

Another reason if you don’t get in direct admit (where that is a thing) you don’t go

They might have realized that their yield rate in pre-business was higher than expected, and so they had to up the forthcoming admission standard to keep the numbers where they need to be inside of Kelley.

3.3 is nothing. Tell him to hit the books.

Business is a rat race. If you can't get that GPA in college, good luck trying to get to the top of the chain at work, especially against those with family connections or wealth.

Preemptive lawsuit for something that hasn’t happened yet (your kid not getting in). Please share the arguments with us too. “Your Honor, I believe my kid is too dumb to meet this new standard, we request damages.”

You can bet that the university's General Counsel (meaning the entire office, not just one person) has much more experience with this sort of thing than any one family's attorney, and that they have already figured out exactly what does and does not imply a contract agreement.

Have some faith in your kid, OP.

But your child hasn’t even started, right? A 3.3 should be doable. Why are you creating problems before your child has started? Things change all the time in the real world. Compared to people getting their offers fully rescinded due to government freezes, this seems like nothing!

Take any class you think your kid will struggle with at ivy tech. Used to be everyone took calculus and stats there but I think they don’t allow those classes to transfer anymore.
