I find this fascinating. I complain about my husband to close friends - I'm not sure I'd do it at a bday party, unless we were all generally complaining about our idiot husbands. I think I'll try to do it less.

Because they're trashy

When I’m really frustrated or annoyed with my spouse, I find myself complaining or contradicting them in public and i always regret it. I don’t like how it makes ME look.

I also agree that I am annoyed by people who never say complain about their spouse if we’re having a one-on-one conversation. I have a friend who is like this. The one time she complained about her spouse was when she was heavily sedated after a medical procedure. FINALLY!

The responses on here are so funny. Seems people are very uptight. My friends and our spouses like to laugh and tease each other. We keep it real.

Honesltly, I'd rather head about that than what your husband effed up. One is mildly boring and the other is just cringy.

I’d honestly rather not interact at the party then hear about either of these options.

Lowwwww Key 🥴

Wife was complaining to other parents in front of her ex, about how the ex didn’t do a bunch of party related things that she had envisioned. She was also pointing at other men at the party and saying to him “see, this husband is [doing the thing she wished he were doing].” It was little things like helping unpack water bottles, etc.

Then at a dinner party, a guy friend was complaining about his wife’s financial preferences—she wanted to hold onto their old house while he thought they should sell; but it was the way he was presenting it that made it seem like the wife was being unreasonable when really it’s not an obvious choice especially in this environment.

A third friend was complaining about his wife never letting him go on guy trips (this friend is absolutely devoted to her and a total nerd, he wanted to go to some rare electric vehicle show with one friend for two nights).

Why do people do this?

The women can always do better in these situations.

It’s only socially acceptable in the DMV to drone on about your gifted kids and their boring accomplishments at birthday parties.
