super useful

Actually that was a helpful response. Beer goes better with bbq, beer/wine both ok with cookout.

I have my sommelier certification, and I disagree that “rose is for people who don’t actually like wine.” That said, I do think you need more than one wine available. At a minimum you should have a white and a red, though adding a rosé won’t hurt either. For rosé I might suggest The Beach by Whispering Angel, rather than Whispering Angel itself. The Beach is a bit more structured, more of a food wine.

For reds, a California Cab Sauv please a wider variety of palates than some of the more obscure bottles, and perhaps a Chablis for your white (same grape as Chardonnay but from France and unoaked, and oakiness is the most divisive quality of a chard).

Pinot Grigio is an easy to drink white wine. Serve it cold. Sauvignon blanc is another easy to drink variety of white wine. Also should be chilled.

Pinot Noir is an easy to drink red wine variety.

I try to avoid wines from New Zealand as the grapefruit / lime taste is not pleasing to me.

This - do an Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir. except the New Zealand part. I think wines from Spain and Australia tend to be better than the U.S. ones at the same price point.

If they are actual wine drinkers, do not do a Rose. That is wine for people who do not actually like wine.

For red, I’d do a light Pinot , Zinfandel or Merlot. For white, I’d pick a Chardonnay as that’s more ubiquitous.

Agree. I drink wine frequently, but would not even take a sip of a rose. Yuck !
