This. What’s the point stopping 1 or 2 hours short of your destination.
PP Here I feel this way even if you are more than 1 or 2 hours.
What are you going to do, stop at some mediocre highway hotel, grab a quick bite of not great food, not really rest or get a good nights sleep and then get up early to finish the trip? I, and most people I know, would rater just suck it up and get there. And if you have the energey to go for a nice meal, and do some thing touristy, then you have enough energy to keep driving.
We typically stop in JAX beach where we can arrive by dinner time, walk on the beach, etc. and have a relaxing evening. We sleep in a bit and can still make it to our Florida destination further south by lunchtime—and everyone is pleasant rather than cranky.
5 hours of additional driving on Day 2 will be too much. Since JAX is relatively easy, I thought we could push through another hour or so.
We cannot make a 15 hour drive miles wise in one day. With multiple stops, it would easily end up being 17+ hours.
