Government has become a lot more dysfunctional and inefficient since Trump took over. And in many cases DOGE is doing the exact opposite of what they promised. For example any funding action over $100k now needs to be reviewed and approved by DOGE except it's caused a backlog and funding isn't getting to where it needs to go, needed supplies aren't being received, broken equipment isn't being fixed, contracts are going on stop-work, contractors are being laid off and fired, thinks are just grinding to a halt everywhere. And that's NOT a "good thing" - it's not "the swamp" or whatever other crap right wing pundits have filled your MAGA heads with, it's essential, needed work, it's stuff that citizens and industry and communities and states rely on and need getting done.

Five months since federal retirement and I received a notice last week that OPM had finally assigned my paperwork for processing and review. I guess it will be another fix months before I can receive a full pension payment. Prior to DODE dismantling OPM, people were processed and received their pensions within four months. It’s now taking the long to assign a processor.

I talk to a MAGA conspiracy theorist acquaintance regularly. I don't know if he will ever recognize how many lies he fell for, because he's otherwise a smart person (I know, it's hard to reconcile), and knows he's smart.

For many of these people, coming out of this will break them. They need to gradually see the light, and find relatively tolerant friends and family on the other side. It's like coming out of an addiction. You're never fully healed, and can fall for another conspiracy theory at any time. You feel shame and guilt if you ever realize how far gone you were before.

It's SO MUCH easier to continue believing lies, no matter how many pretzels you need to twist yourself into, because it's the only way of preserving your self-esteem. I am convinced a lot of them will go to their graves, decades from now, still half-believing this stuff. "No smoke without fire! There had to be something there, we were just never told for some reason." That's the sort of stuff they'll say.
