Tell us what you decided to do! I’m so invested now in the outcome. Ha

But FWIW, I would always choose any destination in Europe over one in Canada or the U.S. if the price were the same. I would love to visit the Dolomites -- what a nice opportunity!

I definitely do NOT consider 8 days to be "short" for a European trip. Jet lag is not a big deal when going west to east, IME. It will affect you more coming in the other direction, but at that point the vacation is over, so who cares. You should go!

+1
And the Dolomites are Alpine. So I'd imagine it would be much cooler at those altitudes. Does anyone know what the ski villages are like in summer? Is there hiking, etc? What's to do?

If you're going back to France a few weeks later in July I'd go to Canada but explore beyond Quebec City. Depending on the type of trip you want you could drive to Montreal or charlevoix or into the Adirondacks and stay at a nice hotel.

How is this even a question?

You obviously pick Italy.

I thought Quebec City was meh. Touristy. Inauthentic. Would spend a weekend there at most.

Dolomites hands down, no question. Summer is the best time to go, sure they’ll be crowds but it’s mountain terrain and everything will be open

Hard disagree. NP. Italy in summer is not a walk in the park depending on where you stay how you arrive. Italy is amazing - one of my fave destinations but I would most certainly not call it easy.

QC is as close to European scenery as you get w/o going there. Cafes, shopping, very quaint. Yes, combine w Montreal old town and it's a lovely easy outing in July. Europe is NEVER easy. It's lovely and beautiful and always welcomed as someone who goes often but no. Not in the least easy v to staying on the continent!

Canada. Less jet lag. Enjoy!

Dolomites for sure. 8 days isn’t bad.

QC is easier. I've done both. Both are great but if you want easy it's Canada v Europe in flight time alone.

We spent a week doing this. Also it's much easier and cheaper to fly into Montreal vs. QC and there is cheap and frequent bus/train service between the two cities.

+1 I know the comparison is Italy, which is hard to compare to, but if you have any reservations about traveling, a Montreal + QC trip that time of year is really great and SO easy. We did it with small kids and still felt pretty relaxed and happy.
