Yes, find out where he went to Lawn Mower University, and where he graduated within his class. If it's not the top 10% from one of the top ten LM U's, pay less.

Your child lives in your house with your lawn.

This "kid" OP is going to be paying, does not, presumably, live in her home and thus has no inherent responsibility toward it's upkeep.

If your babysitter screws up, you could have a dead child. The stakes are so much higher. I can only assume it's because lawnmowing is "men's work" and childminding is "women's work."

Doesn't apply to us, but I think it's just an issue of time vs amount of money being worth it. No one is going to come out and mow your lawn for $10/hr. And most people can't afford to play their sitter $50/hr for 4+hrs. So when a low amount of hours are needed, they have to pay a higher amount per hour to get people to want to do it.

So, you mean an adult.

+1000

This "kid" stuff just means OP doesn't want to pay going rate, and is wanting validation for that. Probably ain't going to get it...

Providing his own mower etc?
Going rate would be around $50, maybe $60 if there is a lot of edging and other detail work involved.

You’re welcome to do it.

You're a schmuck if that's truly what you pay.

You haven’t seen my lawn.

I pay $50 for a service for mowing and edging for a half-acre yard.
