Doing okay as a contractor. Looking towards contracts with the military versus the intelligence community. The work is out there but not in the same places.
Very concerned about the future of our government and what will happen if a crisis happens here.

I hear you, OP. Also feeling unsure what to do at 40 with my whole field being destroyed. The TRO and then nationwide injunction delayed it, the leaks said my division was going to be RIFed last week, so right now I'm just appreciating a few extra weeks of normalcy. I don't want to face what comes next.

oh eff off. the economy is in the toilet, most companies are not hiring, and federal work was supposed to be the safe and steady work choice. so there are a lot of risk averse people, who were the safety net for other people, suddenly facing a lot of risk themselves and with no safety net.

i've been through a lot of layoffs in the private sector, and watched people tumble from solidly middle class to homeless in the space of a year. it's terrifying. and for GOOD contractors, no, changing jobs often is not expected.

I’m sending love and hugs to OP and all those here who are struggling. I’m a fed facing RIFs at Commerce when the nationwide injunction ends. I take it one bi-week at a time. I still love my job and feel like I’m doing important work. The morale of n my office is pretty low but being newly RTO has the benefit of being near others who are supportive. Hang in there!

Fed here. I’m 50 and thought I was screwed. And was having panic attacks while trying to work. Not even about losing my job. About the toxic work conditions.

Then one of those weird networking, but really just having friends/ I know someone who actually needs someone who has my niche skillset things happened in the last couple of weeks. Reviewing employment contracts and putting our house on the market (spouse is full telework, and the job is actually in the place we had planned to retire). It’s hard to leave 6 years shy of MRA. I’m leaving a lot of pension on the table. But I’m not going to make it 3.5 more years, even if my job survives.

Two contractor family here. Husband’s contact was cancelled so he’s out end of July. Mine was supposed to be the safety net on the corporate side of a large contracting company where I’ve also recently been let go. We’re both early 50’s with young kids and scared, lost and not sure what to do. We’re both in marketing and comms. I'm not a fed (I work in public media, the administration is also trying to to destroy), but I just wanted to drop a note to say I'm so sorry this is happening to you and to our country. I know what it's like to devote yourself to mission-driven work. Thank you for all you've done.

Confused. First RFK Jr. called us the deep state and sock puppets to industry. Now he is sending us emails thanking us for all we do.

Anyway, I gave my notice and will sadly finish my very rewarding career as a Fed next month.
