Have you tried speaking very slowly using only words with two syllables or less? I think gorillas can understand 1-2 syllable words so they should probably be able to?

Campus Police might indeed take someone into custody, maybe even Mirandize them, and then quietly release them from custody sometime later, and not enter their arrest data into the NCIC. In that sense, it will be as though the arrest never happened, since it wasn’t reported to NCIC.

This of course is surely a violation of departmental policy - but hey, cops never violate policy, right?

I could easily imagine something like this happening for the “correct” sort of person (certain faculty, children of major donors, student athletes, other “privileged” people) in the case of a nuisance type crimes like drunk/disorderly, disturbing peace, etc. This sort of stuff happens in small town police departments all the time - I cant imagine a university dept being any different.

My mom believes anything the union sends her even when it contradicts itself. It’s crazy making. She gets these alarmist messages “call your rep and tell them to vote no on HR666.” I’ll ask her what that is and she says something bad. I’ll look it up and ask her why does the union think it’s bad? She gets mad and refuses to talk about it. She refuses to do any thinking herself or any completely accessible reading.

I would mock them in a joking way. This is just one of many strategies when dealing with crazy political types. I do the same thing when my highly educated relatives talk about how affirmative action isn't discrimination.

Another strategy is to ask them questions about whatever topic you are talking about. They will revert to their talking points and will squirm and try to change the subject because they don't know anything about pretty much every subject.

Not sure what the context is, but I’m sure Harvard has campus police that can arrest people. But due process still applies, so the arrested person has all the same rights as if she were arrested by any other law enforcement officer, so can’t be hidden from the courts. 🤣🤣

Don’t argue. Listen. Ask questions. Offer an alternative thought. Don’t act like a toddler.

There is a lot of research in this area. Read it. You can be persuasive in a non confrontational manner.
