I often find my travel day is one of the most “ productive” since I got up early and I’ve had a rest in the form of sitting in the car or airplane. I try to maximize it. I usually sleep pretty well that first night too.

Depends on the location. I make a reservation for a nice restaurant or we hang by the beach and get food brought to us.

We need more info. Is this a beach rental, a resort, a mountain retreat or a Days Inn?

Yes, we know certain areas of a hotel are rarely if ever cleaned. I still don't care. Not cleaning anything. I don't plan on licking the remote.

Ha! Me too! I check for bedbugs and that’s it. We have been fine (except that one time with the bedbugs…. 🐜)

We arrived in London, Rome, etc. early in the morning before we could check in. We always head straight to the hotel to try to check in early. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. We leave our bags with the valet and typically take a walk and find a nice sit down restaurant for an early lunch, and then we usually can access our hotel room afterwards.

If we are just going to the beach, we usually hit the beach before checking in.

Another +1. If you're staying at a place the maids just "spray" dirty sheets that's one thing (and what a shithole that must be...) but all the rest is unnecessary. I stayed in hotels weekly for 7 years and did none of that. Basically never got or currently get sick.

I Clorox Wipe light switches, faucets, phone, tv remote, door handles, chair lever, blinds, etc. Takes less than five minutes.

Go explore the immediate area, go for a walk, to the pool, get dinner, hang out.

With the short turnaround between guests, it's highly unlikely that the place will be very clean. I think the best you can expect is something that isn't visibly dirty. Plus you hope that if something is broken, the previous renters reported it and it got fixed, but that is often not the case because no one wants to be stuck waiting for repairmen on vacation.
