My family loves Daufuskie Island! It’s a great way to spend the day for a change from
Hilton Head. Be sure to check out the Iron Fish Gallery.

Take a Day Trip to Daufuskie Island. Take the ferry over early and rent a golf cart right at the dock. You can drive all over the island. There are nice, secluded beaches; art galleries; interesting old churches, old schools, Gullah culture sites and more. Highly recommend. We drove from Bethesda. It was 10 hours and except for crossing the bridge into HH which was backed up, was not a bad drive.

It's not really a tourist trap. "Must-see" might be overstating the case, but I think it's the nicest part of HHI. If nothing else, Harbour Town and the Salty Dog are worth checking out.

This. I used to go there every year September, water warm and crowds gone- until I was evacuated during a hurricane. I thought it was a one time thing, but it happened several years in a row. Scary stuff.

They are predicting an above-average hurricane season this year. But we've already bought the plane tickets and reserved an Airbnb, so we're pretty locked into going at this point. We'll just hope for good weather! Not much else we can do at this point.

What about Sea Pines? Tourist trap or must-see if you've not been before?

We are flying into Savannah. I max out at about 6 hours of driving. Looking at either renting a car to have, or just catching a Ferry (or another mode of transportation) to HHI and then renting bikes since we probably won't be driving around. But, a car has seemed more economical - and convenient - for two people

It could happen, but this strikes me as worrying too much.

Also, I-95 sucks, but driving still isn't too bad. (That said, if you can find cheap flights into Savannah or HHI, they're pretty easy airports to get in and out of.)
