Yes, this was the best even though I agree that Charlotte Gainsbourg was the most true to the book. There was a sexual chemistry in this one that was lacking in all the others. And it was the first one where I could really see Mr Rochester's point of view and feel compassion for him. "I want a wife, Jane." He had been lonely being tied to a lunatic for life. He was attracted to Jane's stillness and calmness because he just wanted peace and companionship.

I LOVE Samantha Morton in general though.
It might be the telling of the story.
Jane Eyre can run the risk of being tto much of a fantasy melodrama. Abused stepchild, scary csstle, crazy pyromanic wife locked up in the attic. I think that it might be a fine line to walk when putting it to script and film.
The 2006 BBC miniseries did it to perfection. The storytelling, cinematography, script and characters are all done to perfection, especially the way that the director, writers and actors made the story seem real and plausible.

That said, I love love love the 2006 BBC miniseries. Having 4 episodes really gave the story time to breathe and you really get to know the characters and places.
My least favorite was the 2011 Fessbender movie. I felt the acting was subpar. It was like watching a table read.

Timothy Dalton has very romantic clips like a Mr Darcy, so that adaptation has my vote. Shall we talk about how Alan Rickman would have been perfect in that role?
