Isn't that just how things are, though? Farther out = more land = lower prices = more accessible = less "prestige?"

Aside from the above two places, it's Great Falls #1, McLean #2, and after that, it's about how close you live to McLean. So next are Vienna and Falls Church, like a tie for #3. Then Oakton and close-in Fairfax. After that you're mostly splitting hairs.

Why not?

As someone who lives in Arlington, I would never live in Great Falls. To me it’s just as bad as Burke or wherever. I also still prefer Arlington to McLean, but don’t have a visceral reaction to McLean (like I do to Great Falls). I can easily afford McLean and even send my kids to private there, but still I wouldn’t want to live there. If either of those places had charming small town amenities like a New England town, I might be onboard. But McLean and GF are far outside the city and still charmless.

Alexandria (outside of Old Town) is definitely not the higher than Burke. You are talking about the areas off Route 1 going south, right?

Do people think the city of Alexandria only equals OT? hilarious. No Rosemont, Del Ray or Beverly Hills?

Poor Fairfax south of the city of Alexandria (that also likes to claim it’s Alexandria) line Belle Haven, Waynewood, Mt. Vernon.

FML with the view that everyone worships McLean/Vienna/Great Falls/ Falls Church City. We’re full so yall stay over there with your insane commutes.

How? Tier 1 generally has the best schools.

We moved out of Tier 1 last year for better schools. I guess we downgraded according to the prestige list. Would do it again and am kicking myself that we didn't move sooner.

I love Reston FWIW and mainly cause it is so different from the rest of NOVA.

Reston Town Center and parts of Reston closer to Chantilly are nice. Also the more rural areas of Reston near Hunter Mill are quite nice, and I would think of them as being possibly in Reston, though I don't know what municipality those houses officially fall under.
