As the Trump administration works to carry out its promised mass deportations, efforts that largely fall under Ms. Noem’s jurisdiction, officials have floated the idea of suspending habeas corpus for immigrants being expelled from the country.

At a Senate hearing, Senator Maggie Hassan, Democrat of New Hampshire, asked Ms. Noem about the issue. “Secretary Noem,” she asked, “what is habeas corpus?”

“Well,” Ms. Noem said, “Habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country and suspend their right to—”

“No,” Ms. Hassan interjected. “Let me stop you, ma’am. Excuse me, that’s incorrect.”


Way back when, I thought Noem was one of the more qualified of the cabinet of horrors. I guess egg on my face.

She didn't go to law school. She dropped out of undergrad at Northern State U because she was pregnant. She got an online B.A. in Political Science from South Dakota State University in 2012, getting course credit for serving in Congress.


That makes more sense. Took her 20 years to get an online undergraduate degree. You would think she would study the constitution every night and have her much smarter than her underlings teach her as they would an 8th grader. Shows how lazy and stupid she is. She’s spending more time on her looks than reading up on basic American rules and laws.

Nah. DHS secretary is not as impressive as governor. This is a step down, but I guess she’s profiting nicely from the insider trading and other grifts she now has.
