They can't afford reparations right now, and that's even before you get into all the many, many practical problems with reparations at the state level. Spending a few million on a consultant to study reparations would be a waste.
Where is there information on the fact they would contract with a consultant?
The fiscal note for the bill says the Archives would hire one contractual staffer to staff the commission. And generally, the commission itself does the work. The fiscal note says the bill costs $55,000 in the first fiscal year.
I don't think it's a good idea, but I don't see cost as a factor.

I wouldn’t even that far. Reparations is such a political loser that it just demonstrates that the man has a pulse. I commend him for being alive and breathing in 2025.

Well, someone better tell President Booker that this is bad politics.

He ran for President in 2020 and lost badly. He's not in line with most democrats and will not get out of the single digits again in 2028.

+1. Many black people find the idea of reparations to be repulsive and offensive. It's a fringe idea. Pretty much no reasonably intelligent person thinks it's a good idea.

Anonymous wrote:Just a reminder that “reparations” don’t have to be financial. They can be, of course, bet reparations actually encompass a wide range of potential repairs. Making it sound like passing out checks is an easy out when it comes to looking honestly at our history as a country and as a state.
