Did anyone check (or can an administrator confirm) if they changed the cut score this year? They had been making it easier for years and years and there was talk of making the cut score harder again.

I predict that there'll be less fails, less pass advances and more pass proficients overall. Benchmark brought up the rear while stagnating the front.

Here is what you need to remember, SOL scores don’t matter until HS when they need verified credit. A 400 and 600 are both passing. If your kid doesn’t pass they might get flagged for remediation. Maybe, depending on the school.

My 8th grader scored pass advanced in reading for the first time since 3rd so scores seem higher to me.

Wait never mind I see scores of Pass Advanced for both reading and science. No score for writing I guess that gets done later? Not in AAP btw.

Me again. The reading score is down like 25 points from last year though.
This could be missing just one question. These are pretty much the same

My kid saw a huge reduction in score but he’s a bad test taker so who knows.

I'm the OP of the AAP thread. This is my first time posting in this thread. I won't repeat my whole thing but just want to make it clear there's multiple people posting this observation, it's not just me.

But… curious if anyone else had this experience? Is it benchmark program? Is it that schools are just overburdened? Or … perhaps my kids just need to get off screens and into books more? 🤣😬😁

IF they pass still good.. who cares they got a 450 or 480 and not a 500 or 560 or 600. Passing is passing.

I have no frame of reference from previous years because my oldest is in 3rd grade. She is a heavy recreational reader (we literally have to confiscate books so she goes to sleep some nights) and scored a pass - advanced in the mid 500s. Her iReady scores in the winter estimated her lexile level to over 800 and she does consistently well in ELA so her score seems pretty expected to me.

I wonder if the 5th graders spent all those weeks exploring the world of corn, and then turns out, the test had nary a mention of corn? What if it tested them on something like celery? They totally would not have been prepared! No wonder my child dropped in reading!

Maybe Benchmark is good for helping kids who are not so good at reading, but not great at helping kids who are already strong in reading to keep growing toward their potential? Or maybe teacher differences? My kid's 4th grade language arts teacher really pushed them and his score jumped way up from 3rd grade. I don't think this year's teacher has been nearly as challenging. In 4th he would bring home a lot of LA homework and this year, none.
