A) didn't feel like doing their own homework about their child's options (working parents who didn't prioritize child)
B) needed someone to therapy them into the reality of middling options
C) really and truly clueless about schools (i.e. immigrant) in which case the consultant is basically project managing the application package

Was not our experience at all. For us he knew only the "river road corridor" schools-had no understanding of how DC publics and Maryland publics and VA schools in general--private and public actually operate and did not follow up with admissions officers once decisions came out as he had promised he would. Super charming and nice but really narrow in perspective. If you want to get your kid into Maret or GDS sure..fine but if your kid has a nuanced set of needs ( not special needs -just complex) , or might do better in certain programs at different schools its not worth the money.

We did not use a consultant, but I know of one who charges families $25,000 for a 1-year contract to find a school. Not sure of the scope of work other than I know she works closely with the admissions teams at schools.
