Not that great of a school. If you are paying that much, you can do better

You are missing everything socially. Episcopal is not strict.

Anonymous wrote:Episcopal is confusing. What you see on the website does not accurately represent what the school is about. If you are thinking about applying to EPH make sure you speak with a real person. The marketing of the school is very misleading and rather dishonest. It really is a southern school with international students thrown in to pay the bills. We are from NY and wished we had accepted the Lawrenceville School.

No one with any kind of sense would pick Episcopal over Lawrenceville. No way, no how. Academically Episcopal is absolutely mediocre. Not stellar in any way but not bad either.

The social life is very intense - party life is rampant (drinking, sex and drugs).

Re the above applicant - yes. Assuming he does okay on SSAT and has at least one strong recommendation from a teacher or coach. And you will probably get a little - not a lot - of merit financial aid - say $5K per year, renewable. But he also has to be personable at his interview, etc.

Could somoeone comment on how competitive Esiscopal is to get into for 9th or 10th grade? We are considering for DS who is currently at a big 5 school in DC. He is doing OK academically at his current school, my guess is pretty much the middle of the pack. Well rounded in sports but not a standout. Would be be a competitive applicant?

Episcopal recently hired Sidwell's lead college counselor who has a good reputation.

I don't know if it's worse than schools who have parents who are willing to throw these parties and provide the means for the sex, booze, etc. Episcopal certainly doesn't condone this behavior but there is so much opportunity where you are not watched. If you are caught, you could be in trouble, but so much is not caught and since its boarding there are no parents to monitor either. If your kid is straight and not interested in partying, you are fine. But there is a lot of oppprtunity and no one watching. They say no tolerance but that's not true. If you are busted partying you become a member of this program where they have the right to randomly drug test you, but that isn't much of a deterrent for the kids. I know people who were expelled and let back in the next year and their behavior didn't change so that's a joke. Kids sign out all of the time and uber any where they want to go and basically do whatever they want.

LOL -- the reference to the 45-game win streak was in a post from SIX YEARS AGO. Old thread.

Please tell me more about permissive drinking, drugs and sex. Is it more than at other area privates or public high schools? Does the school just ignore it? Is this recently? DC liked the school and considering attending. Specifics would be great. Thank you for any insight.

They ought to given their endowment...

EHS is different from other DC area schools. It has a more Southern patrician feel with a couple foreign and UES kids. Some people like that.

This sums it up. A student body of rich white teens primarily from Virginia-from-south-of-NOVA, North and South Carolina, and a handful of Georgians. With an overlay of Chine$e $tudent$ who don't speak English well or even at all, and a few South Koreans.
