My teens practices have been late in the evening since 9th grade and it seems this is the norm among his soccer friends. Practices are generally 8-9:30. Maybe you can find a team that practices later?

I'm sorry, OP. We'd be in a similar situation except for the fact that one of us lost their job and has been home to transport to practices. Normally, practices would be in the evenings after I get home but this year has been odd and practices are right after school 25 mins away with no school-provided transportation.

We can't afford to buy the driving teen a car at this point. If the kids have to miss an activity, there's nothing I can do about it with little to no flexibility in work schedules, unfortunately.

So was I. That’s where we used carpools, hired drivers, Took public transportation so we had a car for teen driver and eventually bought a kid car. And HS is so easy compared to non school sports for the reasons mentioned.

I find school activities harder as ours aren't directly after school and often conflict with outside sports. We have one that starts at 5 at school.

I’m 20:02 and realize I didn’t fully answer OP’s question. We got our oldest a car at 16. It helped immensely with driving. I’m talking about club/travel practices. HS sports wouldn’t be a possibility and aren’t even the main season by the time they are teens. We only need to drive our middle schooler around now and our oldest even helps with that sometimes. Get another car.

We hired a college student to pick kids up and drive them to early practices. We also had carpools to many other activities. This was all pre-Covid as kids are now HS/college age.
HS DC now drives or has a carpool.

Good luck getting on sports teams in high school. They are all cut and if you don’t do travel since toddler stage it’s unlikely.

My kid is more likely to be on the competitive math team. We play sports for fun and exercise.

DH and I have always worked in person, I’m not sure your question. Neither of us are feds or ever have been. I’ve found jobs where I’d had early shifts and go in by 7. He works late. We carpool as much as possible. I often am out by 4 so I can get home and drive them. He does late pick ups. We often work at practice when we can’t find a carpool. We make it work. We say no to club teams or tryouts where we know we can’t make it work.
