I dunno. After your daughter got the great educational experience, you’re now looking back and saying you wished she’d developed friendships and relationships with boys. High school relationships with boys suck mostly for girls because they are more mature and looking for real relationships while most boys aren’t ready. I can’t think of a single girlfriend who had a great relationship with a guy during the high school years. Most were angstful with guys being jerks because they were immature. We had male friends. Often those friendships were guys wanting more when we didn’t.

Great education lays the foundation for the person a girl will become. Relationships with boys, objectification, and the perennial threat of date rape? I’m happy to have my daughter give all those a miss until she’s older.

K-5: local public
6-8: private boys school
9-12 private coed

This balance worked really well for our son. The middle school years are a terrific window for single sex schooling.

We were sooooo against it but our DS wanted to apply. This was for HS. I can’t believe I’m saying this but it has been the best experience for him. Not sure I would have started earlier but very happy for HS.

While it depends on the kid for sure, Ophelia has been revived and it’s boys that are more likely to need special attention.

Really depends on the kid and the school: I did it and hated it, sibling did it and loved it. Fast forward to having kids, both of mine wanted co-ed, one adamantly so, and the other 50-50. There's no right or wrong answer.

My daughter did coed K-6 and now has been at all girls for 7,8, & staying for HS. She loves the all girl environment. Boys mature way later and say stupid things to girls. Now she doesn’t have to deal with that and I get the sense she feels much more confident speaking up in class.

100% would do again. Our daughters came out very confident and prepared (and with very deep and warm friendships).

I went to an all-girls HS and wished I could have gone to all-girls MS.
Switching my daughter to all-girls for 4th grade next year.
