Gel! They can be stared with short nails. They don’t have that fang sharp pointy look.


Gel has completely destroyed my nails - they take so much off the nail both to apply and remove. I'm trying hard to grow them back out now as they are totally chipped, peeling, and broken.

Oops hit submit too soon. In nursing school we were advised not to have nails passed our fingertips for that reason.

I think they look trashy. The men in my life either could care less or say they look trashy as well depending who you ask. So why bother? That's my take. I also think they harbor germs and are generally unsanitary.

Many many compliment natural nails that are not grossly long however.

I love getting my nails done, but why in the world should colored nails be considered basic "grooming?" That's ridiculous - we as women are our own worst enemies. Its sad that a woman is thought of less than just because she decides she doesn't want to indulge in that particular ornamentation. That's even before we get to the fact that the formaldehyde and other chemicals in polish are known toxins.


PP here - I didn't say you had to have color. I have a very light pink color on my nails. They actually look clear.

The point is that when women try to look nice, for some reason, DCUMs go after them.

Is nail saloon any good?


I go to the one in Friendship Heights and it's consistently excellent. Very clean, doesn't smell, and excellent customer service.

I also seem to run into everyone there (other moms from my kids' school, my doctor, friends of my mom, etc) so it really seems to be THE place to get your nails done for the Chevy Chase crowd.

Yes, I’ve been going there for 5+ years and always have a good experience. Highly recommend. U Street is my favorite.
